Admins need to chill.
This video demonstrates the idea that admins are too serious and literal in their jobs...yes they should remove undesirable players from the server and maintain the order somewhat...but Christ to they not know how to chill out and enjoy the game itself. You can do your job without being King Kunt to everyone. Taking your job to this level of severity makes you, in my opinion and many others, an undesirable player on the server, one that no one wants to associate with, and one who would be better off banned (undesirable = ban, remember) ... make the server a better a place, act like guardian angels to help protect and guide people, not the fucking Gestapo to keep people in line. HEIL HITLER!

Re: Admins need to chill.
From what I heard, 3z didn't ban anyone and one of the mods banned earphones... "Meet the mod"?

Re: Admins need to chill.
Yeah, cliff got earphones to admit that he had a client hack on. Thing is, that was completely and utterly unnecessary, the mods could easily see that he was hacking (Bob's earlier post proves that well enough with all the messages about it coming up in his chat feed). All cliff was doing was his best to humiliate earphones.
More to the point of the thread though, yeah extremely harsh admins do need to chill out, and I'm glad we don't have those on this server. The admins on this server are just what they should be, mods who take their job seriously and do things thoroughly. They don't ban on a whim, but at the same time they aren't too lazy to fully investigate what exactly was going on and ban the person instead of lazing about and therefore not banning somebody just because they are afraid other mods+ might find fault with their lack of evidence.

You on drugs?
We (well cliff) got him to admit it so that he could get off with not being banned, if anything cliff saved the man regardless of the method seeing as he ended up not being banned, and he was right to make earphones feel bad, after all he was hacking and trying to deceive people like Corey then denying it despite the proof.

Re: Admins need to chill.
I think people have gotten the idea that because the name of the video coincidentally is 'Meet the 'Admin'' that I only intended to aim at the admins on the server. Indeed it would have helped if the video was named 'Meet the Staff' or 'Meet the Mod or Admin' but those don't really ring well as a name title akin to the TF2 series of Meet the vids. Granted it was aimed primarily at one person, but it applies to anyone and everyone who has banning privileges, it wasn't an attack on just the admins specifically running this server. Apologies for the miscommunication.

Re: Admins need to chill.
There has always been a healthy medium of being an attentive admin and a 'chill' admin. Those who take it too seriously scare off potential players and donators while those who 'could care less' are the ones who let the rule breakers roam free without supervision. The healthy medium is one of watching and addressing in-game or in an appeal while still being somewhat professional with how they address the situation with the handling and wording. If someone is xraying and you ask them what they're up to in game and receive the simple reply of 'mining' and further questioning leads to no logical conclusions other than xray, then you would ban them. But if they are attentive to your reasoning and you closely monitor their activity after being confronted and they have stopped their economically degrading ways then they have gotten the message and changed theire actions accordingly.
TL;DR Version:
Strict Admin:
1. Investigate
2. Jump to conclusions
3. Ban & question later
Good Admin:
1. Investigate
2. Question the offender
3. Restate rules & await reply
4. Ban if they do not quit, leave unbanned if they do quit doing whatever
Bad Admin:
1. Investigate briefly
2. Ban without questions or proof.

Re: Admins need to chill.
I don't think the best plan of action is to question the offender. As this has shown, people lie when they break the rules (shocker).
Also, if it happens to be a staff member being investigated, asking them about it is kind of silly.
Normally, I have found, the best plan of action is to investigate without telling the *possibly* guilty parties that they're being investigated, gather conclusive proof, maybe talk to pat, show him proof, and if necessary, ban.
Sometimes I move ban earlier in the sequence, because pat doesn't need to know every single ban. But if you know the rules well enough, you can make the judgement of if someone has broken a rule hard enough to be banned
Think about it in terms of xrayers.
*server* -xrayer- has found 1000x diamond ore~!!!
*Admin* vanish/teleports to -xrayer-
*Admin* -xrayer- are you xraying?
*xrayer* lol nope
-xrayer- has disconnected
*Admin* well he left, no ban necessary
that is GoDjMike's solution
I'm not saying it's bad, or that GoDjMike is a bad staff member, but I am saying that maybe since there is this confusion, we should have a better set of rules for dealing with bans and when to ban and when to warn and when to talk to pat or another superior

Re: Admins need to chill.
My soultion to xrayers is pretty simple.
1. Stalk and check blocks if posible.
2. If confrimed xray, I block em in.
3. Burnhammer.
4. ???
5. Profit.

Lol. personally, I always question the offender if the offender is online. If they lie after saying the rules, Ban. If they log out, Ban.

I'm only making the questioning part in regards to people who are griefing. Xraying/Client use is a whole different issue that can't simply be solved by letting them go lose and letting them ruin the economy. The questioning gives you leverage either way once you ban them *if* they appeal. You can't determine the future actions of a player based off of their words only. As the cliche sayings go: 'Actions speak louder than words'.
