1/2/12 New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year's to everyone first off.

After running the server for 11 months now, I've learned a lot about server administrating, (Mostly from Orcworm, shut up I know) and I think it's time I kick my laziness and run this server to its full potential.

Some things I wanted to say and start doing as resolutions:

• More quickly respond to user complaints
  
• Update the forum more often
  
• Speed up the ban appeal process
  
• Make Player->Staff communication clearer

First way I'm going to do that is setup this forum to be "Announcements". From now on, hopefully on a regular basis (weekly?), I'm going to put out announcements to fill the community in on what is going on behind the scenes for the server/what it means to the player.

Thanks to generous donations by players on the server, I have amassed enough money to be able to invest in advertising. In the coming weeks, I'm going to be scouting out places to advertise so hopefully you will notice a jump in player activity.

I've also opened the suggestions section of the forum, where you can suggest anything you believe will improve the server as a whole.

Something interesting came across my mind today while working on a plugin: Towny. It is very similar to Factions, but it seems like a better fit to our server. Of course, if we ever do switch to Towny, anyone who owns a faction will become the mayor of a town. What's interesting about towny, is poorer Mayors, the Towny equivalent of Leaders, can band together under a richer mayor to form a nation. That's right, you can form countries with this plugin. Along with any civilization, there are taxes, wars, and banks, all of which are in the plugin. For more information, read here. Please vote in the poll if you support Towny replacing Factions.

List of changes:

• Auctions, sadly, are still defunct.
  
• Donors no longer see announcements
  
• Spleef is being worked on

Alrite, I would like to note, I have used Towny and it would be very useful for helpful for poorer people make towns, with protections. However based on my past server, Towny is really annoying both for users and admins alike. But What works for one server works for other's I guess, doesn't help that my past admin was a retard.

Anywho, I voted no for Towny.

Also, if we start advertising for more players on the server, I personally think we should also expand the size of the border, allowing more room for more builds to be built in the future.

I have heard that about Towny, and was recommended this.

We all know that New Year's resolutions don't last so we'll get the lazy Pat back at some point ;D

I think 6000x6000 is sufficient enough of a size for a world. But there needs to be a better access to the outside world, because there are just about no houses past 2000 plus/minus distance of spawn. Idk how it should be done though.

ppl can get far fast its not hard, nether travel.

A little late on this but this is awesome to see that Pat is stepping up and trying to improve the server, just saying. Go Pat!

Idk about Towny yet, as I have not read anything about it.

I'm interested in Towny, just wondering if builds would be moved into your faction leader's territory? Just Wondering.

I am interested in Towny, but what would happen to say areas that people have bought and protected would you be able to like... change it to a like dictatorship or something? lawls
