Ofc, the bum in the vid is talking typical norwenglish. I hope he burns in hell. /rant
@3z: Burn!
More info (long list):
- Spoiler:
- We did not invent oil (obviously), we found a shitload of it accidently, then we got american/british companies to help us build oil rigs, for only to steal/PLUNDAR their tech and build our own. Its now world leading in the field (if you are to belive norwegians saying so).
- Potatoe came to norway during the early midevil times... Not native by default.
- The norwegian oil fund could cancel USA's ecconomy crisis and still have plenty to go.
- We used to have one of the biggest merchant fleets in the world until we started with the oil.
- Not all norwegians are not born with skis on our legs (altho some are >.>). If you must ask, I have sealegs.
- Grandiosa is the most eaten frozen pizza brand in Norway.
- Norwegian fish is well know and has a worldwide demand, its one of our main exports next to oil and energy.
- There are more "ethnic" norwegians in the united states than in Norway, aprox: 8m in the USA compared to the 5m In Norway (migration during the 1880's-1920's).
- There is a lack of kindergardens in norway, as well as hospitals, schools (I know he said there is plenty but its not in reality), elderly homes and most public services could use an upgrade, It's not as bad as in most of Europe however.
- Norwegian vikings were expansionists and came to north america before Colombus (but ofc. didnt beat the natives).
- Some of the fameous wooden structues in netherlands and denmark have norwegian oak in it, it was the main industry next to stockfish, salted cod and ofc, potatoes. Until we found oil.
- We have 2 writen languages, Bokmål and Nynorsk.
- We "own" roughly 30% of south pole, "Dronning Maud Land".
- We hunt whales because it tastes awesum.
- North of norway there is a small landmass called spitsbergen/svalbard, there you are allowed to carry arms when in the wild, due to the fact that polarbears are around. Taxes are also greatly reduced there (and its cold as fuck).
- We have a small army. However we have joint training for troops in NATO. Its in relation to cold weather and mountain warfare. 1st time service is usualy mandatory here.
- Trolls are the figureens you see in the vid, usualy sold as trinkets to tourists, very common in norwegian story books to scare children...
- Diary products have higher consumtion than most places in europe. (hence the white cheese and bread, altho originaly we eat more brown cheese).
- Late night stands is common place due to equaly high alcohol consumtion (and also because statistics fail to metion population ratio):
How its most commonly done:- step 1: get drunk early then go to a bar.
- step 2: find another ugly drunk (preferedly of oposite gender)
- step 3: drink more
- step 4: ???
- step 5: get laid, or pass out (or both at once)
- step 6: When you wake up, try to remember who the ugly chick/dude is next you...
Regret and repeat again next weekend.
- The blue and red dressed ppl you see in the vid are grad students from "collage/highschool", there are other kinds like orange wich is midschool and a few others but most common are these: blue, red, black and orange. Color depends on what your going for, or what stage your on.
Red: general theortical studies, art & creativity to name a couple... If your going for uni, you end up here.
Blue: Practical studies such as mechanical engineering or anything related to biz and service, say shop clerk for instance.
Black: Last year practical, or more specialized studies such as plane mechanic or
Orange: Midschool students.
From 1st may to the 17th the gradstudents (aka: 'Russ') usualy take part in crazy events and heavy drinking while still trying to attend school. Most drop-outs happen in that period as final exams are usualy around the corner. The crazy events can be anything from fishing in a sewer, doing stunts in public (ex. roll a ball with your nose down a street), puting red L's on police cars, unoffical drunk brawls, swiming nude on may the 1st (cold water). It kinda depends on location and who decides that years events but you get the picture...
Takeing part in events/challanges gives you an unoffical reward that you put on the hat. This is to show you have done your "duty" in tradtional sense.
Why its done? Idk. Tradition... and a "right" to party/drinking hard Im guessing.
Bonus burn fact: I didnt bother takeing part in my years, was busy studying and saveing money for a driver's license xD
Poor grammar and spelling, I know but deal with it nazis. -_-- step 1: get drunk early then go to a bar.
