just tonight I've been killed twice from lava lagging through walls, then burning me and all my items....

Well I'm ordering the parts in a sec, so that should be cleared up then. 
although I don't know what you mean by lagging through walls.

I was mining... and I was going through a lava pool... so what I would do was mine a block, then quickly put a block in the newly exposed lava to expand my tunnel... sometimes I would place a block in the lava, it would disappear for a second, lava would come through, then the block would re-appear...
This sort of thing has been happening with blocks... when you place them, they kinda disappear for a second, then re-appear... and when you break a block, sometimes they re-appear for a second then disappear again

That may be a 1.7 thing, I was getting that on Orc's too.

it's annoying.... and sometimes I'll be mining and all the blocks will break, but then like 10 seconds later some of them re-appear unbroken
