When it comes down to it, the extension isn't a huge deal. Is the money really worth it? With that money you could be putting towards more RAM or something like that. The .dyndns-server.com is a little annoying, but to me but I think the money would be better spent on hardware. That being said if you have to buy a domain i'd go with .us because it's like half of what .com is and not that bad to remember.

I was considering that fermis, but until the 40 Player limit is full too often, I don't see a need for more hardware.

I would say .net - as this is a network based service and so fits the purpose of the domain (.network) (I used to be a web freelancer so get cheap thrills from web related stuff ^^)
